Segre-Rialbin allas

Espanja, Välimeren metsät
Mediterranean forests are a unique world natural heritage in terms of biological diversity. In Northeastern Spain, the Rialb reservoir, fed by the river Segre, is framed by scenic Mediterranean forests that climb the surrounding hills and mountains. The oak and pine forests in the area serve a multitude of purposes such as water provision, carbon sequestration and wood production.
The Mediterranean has been identified as a major hotspot in relation to climate change. The primary projected impacts on Mediterranean forests are increased risk of megafires and a decrease in water availability. Besides producing wood and non-wood products, managing forests in the Mediterranean can help reduce both risks.
